This year, Mother’s Day is exceptionally challenging for me. As some of you know who follow my Facebook page, my own mother had quite a scare recently. My family owns a fabric store, and my parents went back east to go to a quilting seminar. My mom passed out as she was getting off of the plane. In true form, she went to the sewing classes and went on as if nothing had happened. Unfortunately, something serious did happen — unbeknownst to her she had formed blood clots in her lungs and leg. As a result, she had a surgical procedure and spent several days in the hospital, half of them in ICU. I have never felt so helpless. I was reminded that politics and life circumstances might separate us, but family is everything. Don’t forget to tell the people you love how much they mean to you.
Speaking of people I love… My son, his wife, and son have embarked on a new adventure. Brandon is about to start his residency as a Doctor of Osteopathy. It goes without saying that I am incredibly proud of him. Sadly, my son’s residency is three years, and Brandon and his family are once again all the way across the United States. So, to my daughter-in-law Elizabeth, Happy Mother’s Day. I miss you all, but in the grand scheme of things, three years is not forever.
To all members of my family, if I don’t tell you often enough how much I love you, please remember that I do.
I wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day in 2017.
