Big changes have happened this year. My oldest son fell in love and got married. Brandon is completing his second year of medical school across the county from us. So, we initially met the delightful Elizabeth via the wonders of Skype.
There are many things that I hope, as his mom, I’ve taught my son.
- Marriage is fun (and funny). If you can’t crack up with your spouse, you are taking yourself entirely too seriously.
- You will have tough battles ahead. Remember to fight the battles, not each other.
- Employ the five-year rule. If it’s not going to impact your life in five years, don’t bother to fight about it. It’s not worth your time, energy or the hurt feelings.
- Life rarely follows a script, but that’s okay. You have each other for support now. Don’t turn inward when you’re scared. You are a team now.
- Your life will be easier if you use the hamper.
- Remember to tell your spouse all the wonderful things you say about them when they aren’t around.
- Take tons of pictures and have lots conversations with your children because one day you’ll be watching Sesame Street with them and the next you’ll be looking a wedding photos hoping you imparted enough life lessons.
Welcome to the family Elizabeth. We are glad you are here.
